sublet at d&a

Hi all!

Next weekend (Feb. 20-23) we'll be showing our fall 09 collection at the d&a tradeshow next weekend. We just shot the look book this past weekend and are thrilled about how it turned out (Kudos to Caitlin and Stayc for a great shoot)!

As always we've kept our effortless silhouettes, and are excited to expand them in beautiful sustainable woven fabrics. We'll also be adding key, versatile pieces to round our your eco-friendly wardrobe- so stay tuned!

Interview with our Fall 08 model- Kristin Flammio

As promised, we are very committed to supporting the people that we work with and their work. We both feel very lucky to be in a community with so many creative people.

Our next interview is with Kristin- our of our gorgeous models for our fall 08 collection. We got connected to Kristin through our photographer Eliz. We had asked Eliz if she knew any girls who'd be great to shoot and she suggested Kristin. They had been wanting to do a collaboration for a while and it worked out for everyone.

We were lucky enough to work with Kristin, who had modeled for awhile. She had a great attitude even when we were shooting her in dress in 20 degree weather! We had known Kristin was also a singer, but we were really excited when looked up The Knife "Heartbeats" video on youtube and found out that Kristin did an amazing cover. Kristin has a show coming up Jan. 21st at 92y Tribeca, so if you're in the NYC area check her out!

Name: Kristin Flammio
Website: www.myspace.com/kflammio
Hometown: Rockland, Massachusetts
Currently living: Williamsburg Brooklyn

When did you start singing and why did you get into it?
my father is a very musical guy (he's had a basement band for as long as i can remember) so i was always surrounded by songs and music

Who are your major musical influences?
Aimee Mann, Stephin Merritt (of Magnetic Fields), oldies! the list could go on and on.

You did some singing in Europe. How did that come about? What was it like? Is there a particular venue/place you like singing the most?
actually i went to europe for modeling not singing.... as far as a venue i enjoy playing at most, i don't have a favorite. when i lived in LA i'd play a few places on rotation but the best part of a venue is if they have plenty of seats, good drinks and no cover!

What are you working on now?
writing/recording. still playing as often but i'm working on really getting a solid group of songs together to make an album with. it's something i've always wanted to do. i'm also trying to collaborate more with other musicians to create new sounds.

If you could do a collaboration with anyone who would that be and why?
M.Ward, he has the coolest raspy voice and i am in awe of his music.

Who are you listening to right now?
right now i've been listening to TONS of old girl groups and french pop, my ipod is always on shuffle because i can't stick to just one thing!

Any good websites you read?
http://thesartorialist.blogspot.com/ it is a great way to check out fashion around the world.

New Year's resolution?
stop being afraid of success. go for what you want because waiting around gets you nowhere!

Ecco Eco blog

For all you blog lovers out there (of course we're one of them), be sure to check out this new one Ecco*Eco. We recently got in touch with Abigail and she's so sweet, so we just wanted to give her blog a little shout out. Her posts are beautiful and romantic, and we discovered this great online Eco-style magazine Thread by the BBC through it- who knew!

Interview with our Fall 08 Photographer- Elizabeth Weinberg

So one of the best things about doing Sublet is that we get to work with some amazingly talented people who are just living and trying to create something they find meaningful as well. We feel really strongly about supporting them, so we're going to try and do interviews with some of the people we've collaborated with. Hopefully letting you guys get to know them and their work a little better.

How we met Eliz:
We actually found her through myspace. She had taken a beautiful picture of a friend of ours Alix. A few emails later, we met up and decided to do our fall 08 shoot together. She actually introduced us to both of our fall 08 models as well- Kristin and Emily who are both talented singers in their own right.

Name: Elizabeth Weinberg

Hometown: Franklin, MA

Currently living: Brooklyn, NY

What got you into photography?
Not sure exactly... shooting photos was just something I did to document my life and it became more and more a part of something I did every day.

What and who inspires your work?
I'm mostly inspired by my friends and nature--the woods, the sun, the beach.

You've done some amazing projects- ranging from portraits of Santogold and Cat Power, reportage for Bonnaroo, assignments for Nylon magazine - is there any project that was your favorite and why?
Shooting Bonnaroo for two years was really fun because there were no rules. I got amazing access and was able to get backstage portraits, live stuff, documentary type stuff, everything. The light was really amazing. The NYLON assignments also fun because it was one of my first forays into editorial fashion photography. I had a blast.

Any good websites or blogs on your radar?
I read
aphotoeditor.com, youthoughtwewouldntnotice.com, photoshopdisasters.blogspot.com, and tons of friends' photoblogs... too many to list!

Who are you listening to now?
I'm all over the place. Kate Bush, Descendents, St. Vincent, Stereolab, Elliott Smith, Fleetwood Mac.

Parsons MFA photography exhibit

Last night we went to Parsons MFA photography exhibit to support one of our very talented models Sam, who we shot for our upcoming spring 09 collection. It's always exciting to see work from young artists, whose names you'll hopefully be hearing more of in the next few years.

Be sure to check out Sam's site. Parsons chose her photograph as the front image for the exhibit, which you can see why below.
Also, check out some more talented artists below, whose work is pretty inspiring.
